# Audio & Video

> Ask Arro to trim recordings, convert formats, make files smaller, extract audio, and add subtitles with the desktop app.

Edit recordings and prepare audio or video files for sharing.

Audio and video editing is built into the desktop app.
No plugin installation or separate app account is required.
Your plan's [background task limits](/account/plan-limits) apply.

Media editing works on files saved on your computer.

## Get started

Ask Arro what to change.
Include the file and any required format, file size, or section to keep.

Arro handles the work as a [background task](/concepts/tasks).
Finished files are saved in the task's folder unless you choose another destination.

## Try asking Arro

Tell Arro which file on your computer to use, then try one of these requests.

| “Keep only the first 30 seconds of this video.” | A 30-second clip |
| “Make this video smaller so I can email it.” | A smaller copy, ready for you to attach |
| “Save the sound from this video as an MP3.” | An MP3 audio file |
| “Resize this video to 720p without stretching it.” | A 720-pixel-high video with matching proportions |
| “Save a picture from 10 seconds into this video.” | A still image at that moment |
| “Add this subtitle file to my video.” | A copy with selectable subtitles |

You can also ask Arro to convert formats or adjust volume.

Arro can explain alternatives when a requested format is unavailable.
Smaller files can lose detail or sound quality.

Adding subtitles uses an existing subtitle file.
Subtitles are selectable during playback, rather than burned into the picture.
Creating subtitles from speech is a separate transcription step.

## If a task cannot finish

| Situation | What to do |
| - | - |
| Editing tools are missing | Update or reinstall the desktop app |
| Source file cannot be opened | Check its location and file permissions |
| Output filename already exists | Choose a different filename |
| Processing stops before completion | Ask Arro to retry with a new output |

One editing operation can run for up to 60 minutes before it stops.
An interrupted operation can leave an incomplete file.
